Hello Love Elemental Friends,
Happy New Year! It’s 2024, and boy, do I have a story for you. Like many of you, I find myself at the threshold of change, peering into the unknown with a bag of chips in one hand and a sprinkle of optimism in the other. As I navigate the waters of menopause and the extra pounds that seem to have found a loving home on my hips, I’m reminded of the importance of embracing change with a smile (and a crunch).
Let’s face it, I love all things crunchy and salty. Chips have been my loyal companions through movie nights, afternoon slumps, and even the occasional breakfast (don’t judge!). But as the new year rolls in, I find myself longing for a change. Not just in my snack choices, but in how I approach life and well-being.
Menopause and weight gain walked into my life like uninvited guests who decided to stay for an extended holiday. I’ve learned that shouting at them or giving them the cold shoulder doesn’t make them leave any sooner. Instead, I’m choosing to sit down with them, understand them, and maybe even make them a cup of tea.
This year, I’m starting with the habit of self-love and appreciation. Yes, I’m talking about loving every curve and extra pound because they are part of my journey. I’m embracing vibrant eating patterns that celebrate color, nutrition, and yes, the occasional crunchy treat (because life is too short to always say no to chips). I am also aware that it is more than what I choose to eat. It’s what I choose to think and believe. It’s what I choose to “carry” that may not be mine to carry. Its about my willingness to let go of that which is not mine to carry.
Here are some habits I’m incorporating into my daily routine:
Morning Gratitude: Before my feet hit the floor, I’m taking a moment to express gratitude for my body, my health, and the new day ahead.
Mindful Munching: I’m learning to savor each bite, whether it’s a crisp apple or a sneaky chip. It’s all about balance and being present in the moment.
Dance Like No One’s Watching: I’ve found that putting on my favorite tune and dancing around the living room does wonders for my spirit (and burns a few calories too!).
Hydration with a Twist: Goodbye, plain water. Hello, infusions! I’m experimenting with fruit and herb-infused water to stay hydrated and treat my taste buds.
Journaling My Journey: Each evening, I’m jotting down my thoughts, victories, and even the slip-ups. It’s all part of the process, and I’m here for it.
I’m not on this journey alone, and neither are you. Let’s support each other as we embrace change, laugh at our quirks, and enjoy every step of this wild ride called life. Who’s with me?
As we munch our way through 2024, let’s remember to sprinkle every day with love, laughter, and a dash of self-compassion. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll find that the weight we need to lose isn’t just about the numbers on the scale, but the heavy burdens we’ve been carrying in our hearts. Lets lighten up this year!
Here’s to a lighter, brighter, and crunchier 2024!
With love (and a handful of chips),
Sue
